ONLINE LEARNING CHALLENGE

Online learning programs typically group students into a virtual class based on their choice of the same course subject. Very little, if any, time is planned for new virtual classmates to learn about each other.

The student’s primary, often sole, relation is with the course instructor. This is generally top down and asymmetrical from the start.

Online students therefore often feel isolated due to unfamiliarity with their classmates. Interpersonal connections are ad hoc.

Students also have no way to easily identify their diverse collective assets let along harness them  for optimal collaboration and class team project success. This negatively impacts project completion and learning outcomes. Paradoxically,  online learning programs typically require some student collaboration to fully meet program goals.
